BBQ IS THE BOMB:
Once again, another busy week has come to a close. Most of you know our temp
office is located in the basement of an old mall. (Two more weeks till the snazzy
new office, Yay!) I will be so happy when our phones aren't jacked anymore,
and we can have our good fast internet connection back! (The new place has already
been wired and stuff.)
Anyway, the mall happens to have this poor little guy working for them who is
forced to walk around to all the offices, businesses, and shops and hand out
corporate memos on blue paper...so the running, "Didn't you get the memo?"
joke around our office is a bit strange lately... For instance today there is,
"Free BBQ by the main Elevator/stair corridor with the giant clock on it,
for everyone--celebrating the new management of Parkade!" So, the past
2 days Nolle has been yakking about BBQ...and how he, "just can't wait
until Friday!" and how he tried to bribe his roommate with BBQ to come
help us pack today's mailing. Finally, I am like, "Is Mat, the boss-man,
buying us BBQ?!?! WTF?!?!" Because that just doesn't seem like a likely
story...so finally today, Nolle is like, "Nina, didn't you get the memo?"
Sure enough...
Um, yeah...but BBQ sounds good...even if it is KC BBQ...not the good stuff from
Tejas.
So rather surprisingly, we went upstairs and there was a ridiculous # of people
lined up to chow...I guess they got the memo too...so we get in the back of
the line and crack lewd jokes...and look like we climbed outta the gutter, cause
everyone else was spiffy in their Friday dress casual. (Since the USDA is in
this building too.) It took us forever to get to the grub table, but it was
Buckingham's BBQ, so it was so worth the wait. (Yesterday I had a granola bar,
a piece of pre-packaged chocolate cake from Walgreen's, and a can of Arizona
green tea...Nolle had Ramen, beer and gin, and Huffman had shells & cheese,
and water...So we really needed the protein fix.) Then Nolle and I got caught
by the new management's big speech about how they were going to spiff up the
place with a 9 mil-renovation...so we snuck to the back staircase and back to
the office, since it didn't really apply to us...right? [I feel kinda guilty
about not listening to his spiel--but I am now too full of dead cow, pig, turkey
and BBQ sauce to care.]
Collectively we are going to go see Huff play in his band tonight at Eastside,
and try to avoid the summer street parties on 9th Street. Also, I often complain
about being uber poor, and I actually think I might have some extra cash this
week--for once...I have bills, student loans, etc...but visions of new car-speakers
dance in my head.
Good to know after all of this time I still have my priorities intact.Transmission
out!
