WHY DOES NINA EVEN HAVE A DRIVERS = LICENSE? =20 DIARY OF AN INEPT DRIVER:

The theme for this month is cars, = obviously. =20 Same story different highway.

So, last night I decided to go get a = soda after=20 work...it was 11:30 PM. We are in a fairly new area of town, so = the line=20 between forest and suburbia is kinda thin. Normally I go down = Broadway and=20 then turn onto the street where we are located off of. If you go = the other=20 direction there is another main drag that connects over-yonder. I = have=20 been down the road during the daytime, but not at night. = Needless to say, I over-shot the turn-off and into the sticks I=20 went...again. All I can say is, whatever you do, "DON'T TAKE ROUTE = K!" I should have been tipped off by the wooden plank nailed to a = stick=20 that said, "Route K," but no...no...no...I am like, "Route K has to = connect to=20 the city, right?" ...ha ha ha ha ha! This is Missouri! (Plus = the=20 other night we were bored and went and saw, "Without a Paddle," so I = think it=20 was some sort of sick self-fulfilling prophecy.)

Anyway...Route K is a two-lane highway = with much=20 foliage and free-range cows. I squished a frog with abnormally = long pointy=20 webbed feet, who I am sure was on the endangered species list, and I = think a=20 rabbit? [Didn't stop to find out.] Not to mention the damn=20 deer...little bambi-eyes staring at me everywhere--and you honk at those = suckers=20 and they walk towards you. [I loathe them.] Which forced me to = have to go=20 very very slow down route K with my high-lights on...plus I was = listening to=20 creepy music. [Deerhoof--how appropriate.] Enter the fog...yes = folks=20 looming hover-like fog...thick as ghosts, and lightening! I swear = the only=20 thing missing was the guy wearing a yellow raincoat and a hook. So = luckily, I had my phone on me and my friend Gus, from back home rung me = up, and=20 Drew from KUMD...so I had some people to actively narrate my sad, sad = journey=20 too... [Thanks Guys! I know you were really laughing with me = there...har=20 har!] After a while I did the smart thing and turned back...who = knows what=20 would have happened had I committed to taking a trip down good ol' Route = K. (It wasn't like the other night...where you could see where you = were=20 supposed to be and going parallel...it was more like cruising into the = wooded=20 abyss.)

Being from Texas...and West Texas at = that....I=20 haven't been exposed to a lot of nature. See, they called it "The = Great=20 Plains" because, "The Great Desert" sounded a little too doom and=20 gloom. Now with modern technology...asphalt is the norm in the = populated=20 lone star state...and you can see for miles and miles...don't let the = giant=20 tarantulas on the road scare you--they don't make that yicky = thud like real=20 animals do.
