***DIARY OF A TEXAS GIRL LOST IN THE MIDWEST***
Tomorrow is a very special day. It is Huffy's B-Day. He asked us if he could have a bachelor party sans any bride in his foreseeable future for his birthday. [To relish in his single-male status.] We are now checking into the legality of cashing in on that extra BP discount for his birthday strip-a-gram...
For the first time, and possibly the last...in this little space of the email I have come to call my own, [everyone hide your Captain Morgan's], because without further character waste I present to you...

***JOURNAL OF A MAN IN THE DEPTHS OF A RUM-BINGE***
Damn... good segway Nina!
Well kids, this is your angry white-male commentary about our lovely American holiday known as, "Independence Day," or the 4th of July to some of you kooky kids. See, I'm from the capital of Missouri...maybe you've heard of it...No? Oh well, it's Jefferson City Missouri. A land where it's fairly Republican and won't allow a tattoo parlor or strip club because, "They don't want that kind of element in their town." Last I checked with my stripper friends, the government officials were a good 90 percent of their business. (Why not be able to get a lap dance right next to the church?) But in some strange way, any counter-culture also rules out an actual venue for bands to play in.
As a young chap in numerous punk rock bands, all of our DIY shows would get shut down by the cops, [And my dad's a cop...so doesn't that suck!?], leaving little for the cultural growth in the town as far as music is concerned. Though you do get a lot of angry kids who didn't want to be a part of the town's fascination with the high school football team. As a matter of fact, my hometown was the topic of discussion and/or star of Melissa Etheridge's video for, "Breath." (Look it up on Launch, and you'll get an idea of my town from the football coach in the video.) Forward thinking isn't on the agenda for this town. It holds on to any shred of the 1950's it can. Though you'll catch a rogue record store every now and then... I only discovered punk rock on accident while listening to The Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog." from the Crow 2 Soundtrack...ahh memories.
How does Jefferson City allow a shred of culture into it's conservative town you ask? They wait a good 15-20 years until after the fact. A couple of years ago we had QUIET RIOT play the country fair. [That about covers 1983.] Then we had MOLLY HATCHET. [Resulting in a 'lude/acid flashback to 1978.] Then the glam styling of CINDERELLA. [Check off '88.] I worked at an FYE when Cinderella came to town, and the next day ALL of the Cinderella CDs were sold after not being touched for about 10 years after NIRVANA's "Nevermind" came out.
At this year's Fourth of July festivities at the Capital they had an inspirational headlining performance from none other than, EDDIE MONEY. That's right kids...Joe Dirt's very own American idol singing such hits as, "Shakin'," "Take Me Home Tonight," and the classic "Two Tickets To Paradise." [Nina's personal favorite.] Eddie gave his all, but still managed to sing under the notes. Though all the ladies in their late 30's and 40's we're getting down and dirty as soon as Eddie pulled out the song "Shakin'." It was the most diabolical moment of my weekend... Though I do look forward to when Jefferson City gets into the 90's and they finally get someone like THE SPIN DOCTORS! That'll be sure to turn on all the kids!
On July 9th, I turn 21. (For what I believe may be the 3rd time, according to the local pub's here in Columbia, MO.) But this time it's official. I turn 21, and when I turn 22 I'll be able to say, "I say oh my, and a boo-hoo," according to the STOOGES' 1969. So the next time some of you kids speak with me, my speech may be slightly slurred. Yet, I imagine my 21st birthday will end up being more like the STOOGES' "1970." Out of my mind, radio burning up above...feeling all right indeed.
